All you need to know on a camping safari:

Tanzania Budget camping safari packages are the most pocket friendly compared to Tanzania lodge safari packages/comfort or Tanzania Luxury safari Packages. Most of our visitorschoose to stay in tents in order to be close to nature and to the National Parks’ beautiful landscapes.

Wildcandle African safari’s clients who choose this option will have their tents assembled for them each evening and collapsed again in the morning by our staff, with the tents being packed away and stored on the vehicle, for use again the following evening.

What to expect?

Where to stay: You will stay in public campsites, located inside the park or on private campsites on the outskirts. The campsites in the parks are not fenced and it is not unlikely that you may find elephants wandering between the tents.

Nature of our tents: Accommodation will be in waterproof 2-person-tents (2.5m x 2.5m and 1.8m high) with built-in mosquito nets at the entrances and windows. Comfortable 5 cm thick sleeping mattresses are provided, as well as robust camping furniture such as tables, safari chairs, functional cutlery and crockery. Our camping equipmentis of superior quality, regularly inspected and serviced.

Food: You will also be accompanied by a skilled safari cook who will take care of your well-being. He will prepare all meals, often even including a packed meal for a picnic lunch. Early morning eggs and sausages, coffee and bread, snacks and evenings with stews and salads, Wildcandle African Safari’s cooks can create delicious 3-course meals with only a gas cooker and a sharp knife,

Our skilled chefs provide cuisine from all around the world as well as local cuisine, so you can immerse yourself fully with Tanzanian food or sample the comforts of home.

Traditional Tanzanian food features plenty of meat (especially beef, chicken, and fish), rice, and vegetables. It’s simple, hearty food often accompanied by ugali, a flour and water based dough similar to polenta and eaten by hand.

Vegetarians are also well catered for during your safari in Tanzania with fresh fruits such as mangoes, coconuts, and pineapples available in abundance.

Please note:If you have any dietary needs or allergies, let us know in advance and your chef will prepare kinds of food that match your preferences.

Safety: The entire camping safari is safe. The tents are set in a location inside or outside the parks depending on your itinerary. Every day, your guide will brief you about safety and precautions especially at your campsites because your safety is our number one priority. The campsites are in a safe environment and guarded by an armed ranger at night. You will need to follow the rules presented by your guide and you will be completely safe.

• head torch and spare batteries
• travel quick-dry towel

• deodorant for those days you don’t want to step into an ice-cold shower
• toilet paper or tissues (many toilets don’t provide toilet paper)
• camera
• Spare batteries and memory cards (you can also charge these accessories in the safari vehicle)
• battery pack for phone or other devices to charge via USB

• warm cloths – check weather forecast as well minimum and maximum temperatures during that time of the year
