5-Day Selous and Mikumi Safari Adventure
This thrilling 5-day safari combines the wilderness of Nyerere National Park (Selous) with the stunning landscapes of Mikumi National Park, offering an unforgettable experience in Southern Tanzania. The itinerary is designed to provide diverse wildlife encounters, from boat safaris to game drives, all in pristine, lesser-explored parks.
Day 1: Arrival in Dar es Salaam and Transfer to Selous (Nyerere National Park)
Arrive at Dar es Salaam International Airport, where you’ll be met by your guide and transferred to a flight or vehicle heading to Selous. Upon arrival, you’ll enjoy a boat safari on the Rufiji River, where you can see hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of birdlife, followed by your first game drive. You’ll spend the night in a luxury lodge or tented camp in Selous, surrounded by the sights and sounds of the African wilderness.
Day 2: Full Day in Selous National Park
Today is devoted to exploring Selous in-depth. Start with an early morning game drive, searching for elephants, lions, wild dogs, and other big game in this vast, untouched park. After lunch at the camp, you’ll have the option for a walking safari, where you’ll learn about the smaller details of the bush, like tracks and plants, or you can opt for an afternoon game drive. Return to camp for a peaceful evening.
Day 3: Transfer to Mikumi National Park
After breakfast, you’ll enjoy a morning game drive before being transferred to Mikumi National Park by road or air, depending on your itinerary. The drive takes you through beautiful scenery, with the opportunity to spot wildlife along the way. Once in Mikumi, you’ll check into your lodge and take an afternoon game drive to explore the park’s rich ecosystem, known for its elephant herds, buffalo, lions, and giraffes. Overnight at a comfortable lodge.
Day 4: Full Day in Mikumi National Park
Today is a full day of adventure in Mikumi, one of Tanzania’s most accessible parks. With its open savannah and easy game viewing, you’ll likely encounter large herds of elephants, buffalo, and zebras, as well as predators like lions and leopards. The park is also known for its rich birdlife, making it ideal for bird watchers. Enjoy a relaxing lunch back at camp before setting out for another afternoon game drive or, if preferred, a short nature walk with a guide.
Day 5: Final Safari and Return to Dar es Salaam
After an early morning game drive to catch the wildlife at its most active, you’ll enjoy a final breakfast before being transferred back to Dar es Salaam. Depending on your departure time, you may have a chance for a brief stop or visit in the city before connecting to your international flight.
