4-Day Tanzania Mid Range Safari
This 4-day mid-range safari through Northern Tanzania is a thrilling journey through some of Africa’s most iconic landscapes. You’ll explore three renowned parks: Tarangire National Park, famed for its massive elephant herds and ancient baobab trees; the legendary Serengeti, where endless plains teem with wildlife and predators; and the majestic Ngorongoro Crater, a natural amphitheater packed with game, including the elusive black rhino. With comfortable mid-range lodges or tented camps, private 4×4 game drives, and expert guides, this safari offers a balance of adventure, comfort, and unforgettable encounters with nature.
Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park
Your safari adventure begins with a morning pickup in Arusha by your professional guide. After a short briefing, you’ll head south to Tarangire National Park, a scenic drive of about two hours. Upon entering the park, you’ll be welcomed by sprawling savannahs dotted with majestic baobab trees and a rich diversity of wildlife. Tarangire is especially known for its large elephant populations, which often gather around the Tarangire River. You’ll enjoy a full-day game drive with a picnic lunch in a designated area, soaking in the raw beauty of the landscape and observing wildlife like giraffes, lions, zebras, and various bird species. In the evening, you’ll exit the park and head to your comfortable lodge or tented camp near the park for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Tarangire to Serengeti National Park
After an early breakfast, you’ll set out for the Serengeti, traveling through the lush highlands of Ngorongoro. Along the way, you’ll make a brief stop at the Ngorongoro Crater viewpoint, where the vast caldera opens up below you. As you descend onto the Serengeti plains, the landscape transforms into a seemingly endless expanse of grassland where wildlife roams freely. You’ll enter the central Serengeti by afternoon, where your game drive begins. This area is particularly rich in big cats—lions, cheetahs, and leopards—as well as countless wildebeest, zebras, and antelope. The day concludes at a comfortable tented camp in the heart of the Serengeti, where you’ll enjoy dinner under a starlit African sky.
Day 3: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Today starts with an optional early morning game drive, the best time to witness predators in action during their most active hours. After breakfast back at the camp, you’ll continue your exploration of the Serengeti as you make your way toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The drive doubles as a game-viewing opportunity, offering more chances to spot wildlife and stunning landscapes. In the late afternoon, you’ll arrive at the crater rim, where your lodge offers panoramic views of the crater below. After a long day of adventure, you’ll settle into a cozy lodge for dinner and rest, preparing for the highlight of the next day—descending into the Ngorongoro Crater.
Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha
An early start allows you to descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, often called the Eighth Wonder of the World. This massive caldera is home to an incredible concentration of wildlife, including all members of the Big Five—lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and the rare black rhino. As you explore the crater floor on a half-day game drive, you’ll encounter everything from hippos wallowing in the lake to flamingos decorating its edges. A picnic lunch is served at a scenic spot within the crater. After lunch, you’ll ascend and begin your return journey to Arusha, arriving in the late afternoon or early evening. Your guide will drop you off at your hotel or the airport, marking the end of an unforgettable Tanzanian safari.
