10-DAY COMFORT NORTH SERENGETI MIGRATION SAFARI + CULTURAL EXPERIENCE (Materuni waterfalls, Tarangire, Lake Natron, Serengeti, Ngorongoro crater & Mto wa Mbu Village visit)

This 10-day comfort safari on the northern circuit of Tanzania, takes you to the most famous and incredible places whereby you will visit Tarangire, Serengeti, Mto Wa Mbu Village, Lake Natron and Ngorongoro. In Tarangire, you will be astonished by the large African elephants as well as the huge and ancient baobab trees. Ngorongoro crater will be the icing on the cake and the best place to visit the endangered black rhinos, Lake Natron which is a shallow acidic lake and famous for its flamingos and landscape and Serengeti which has the huge concentration of animals and famous for its great migration, Mto Wa Mbu where you will visit the rice and banana plantations and participate on the Swahili cooking
lessons. At last, you will visit the Materuni Waterfalls in Moshi where you will also do a cultural coffee tour. You will sleep in midrange lodges with private showers

DAY 1: ARRIVAL AT KILIMANJARO AIRPORT (JRO) TO MOSHI

Upon arrival at the airport (JRO) you will be met by Wild Candle African Safaris’ representative and drive you to your accommodation in Moshi for overnight stay waiting for your adventures to start on the following day.

DAY 2: Materuni Waterfalls in Moshi + Coffee Tour Activity

Early morning after breakfast at around 8:00am, you will drive straight to Materuni Waterfalls in Moshi for hiking. A tour to Materuni Village and Waterfalls is a great way to spend a day away from the bustle of town life. The walk to Materuni Waterfall offers a glimpse into the nature of Tanzania allowing you either to prepare your body for the forthcoming climb to Kilimanjaro or ease your muscles after the climb. The tour starts with a walk to Materuni Waterfall. It is an opportunity to see how local fruit like avocados,
mangos, lemons, and bananas grow, as well as learn some of the local history, traditions, village economy, agricultural and cultural life. When you get to the waterfall, you can refresh yourself in the natural pool, so swimsuits will come in handy! The tour will continue with a visit to the local village lying in the coffee plantations. The villagers will demonstrate the process of coffee farming and guide you through the preparation of coffee from a bean to a cup. Sing and dance along with the Chaga people as they are grinding, roasting and boiling the beans. When the coffee is ready, villagers will serve lunch – a national Chagga meal. After that, you will drive straight to Arusha at your accommodation for dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 3: ARUSHA TO TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK

Early morning after breakfast at your accommodation in Arusha, you will be picked up by your private driver guide and take you straight to Tarangire National Park which takes approximately 2 hours. Tarangire National Park is one of the largest parks of Tanzania that covers an area of 2,600 square kilometres. Tarangire National Park is most popular for its large elephant herds and giant baobab trees. It also has a mini-wildlife migration that takes place during the dry season which consists of about 250,000 animals enter the park. More than 300-strong herds of elephant, visitors will find big groups of buffalo and healthy populations of lions and leopards. During the dry season, Tarangire has the highest concentration of mammals in the country. There are wild dogs and rare antelopes such as gerenuk, plus more than 550 species of birds to spot throughout the year. You will have picnic lunch boxes where you will have them inside the park in the afternoon. After lunch and further game viewing, you will drive straight to your accommodation in Karatu for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

DAY 4: KARATU TO LAKE NATRON

Early morning after breakfast, we drive straight to Lake Natron which Lake lies in the northeast of Tanzania in between the Ngorongoro Highlands and Serengeti plains. Here it is the landscape rather than the animals that is the attraction – the area around the lake inhabited by Maasai is dry, desolate and hauntingly beautiful. we will start our activities at Lake Natron which includes following paths to some of the most interesting localities, such as hot springs, Ngare Sero waterfalls and much more. Situated at the base of Africa’s only active volcano Oldonyo Lengai (Mountain of God), Lake Natron is one of the most alkaline lakes in the world. The lake is home to millions of tiny crustaceans, attracting literally thousands of lesser flamingos and it is therefore one of the most important flamingo breeding grounds on earth. Lunch will be taken at the break of your activities and later that you will drive straight to your accommodation for dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 5: LAKE NATRON TO NORTH SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

 

Early morning after breakfast at your accommodation, we will drive straight to the far north of Serengeti National Park known as Kogatende to follow the great migration of more than a million of wildebeests accompanied by hundred thousand of Zebras and antelopes. During July – October, the wildebeest are in the northern Serengeti plains, and you have a chance of seeing up to thousands crossing the great Mara River. As the sight of the wildebeest crossing the so dramatic, it is considered by many the most desirable time to see the migration. You will not only see the migration of wildebeests but also other animals such as predators hunting their prey and other birds’ species at the area. After lunch and extensive game viewing, you will drive straight to your carefully selected accommodation for dinner and overnight

DAY 6: FULL DAY ON THE NORTH SERENGETI (KOGATENDE)

Early morning after breakfast at your accommodation, we will proceed our game drive on the northern Serengeti (Kogatende) following the great migration. You will spend this full day on the northern Serengeti for game viewing and if you’re lucky enough you can spot the crossing at the Mara river as well as crocodiles hunting their prey during the crossing. After lunch and game drive, you will head straight for your accommodation for dinner and overnight.

DAY 7: NORTH SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK TO CENTRAL SERENGETI

Early morning after having breakfast at your accommodation on the northern Serengeti at around 0730hrs to 0800hrs you will depart straight to central Serengeti National Park. Serengeti National Park is the most famous park on the northern circuit of Tanzania with the greatest population of wildlife than anywhere else on this planet. The word Serengeti originates from Maasai tribe, the word “Seringiti” which means endless plains. The park covers a total area of approximately 14,763 square kilometers with more than 2 million
mammals inhabiting the park. The great annual migration involves more than a million wildebeests accompanied by some 250,000 zebras and antelopes and it is one of the 7 wonders of the world. This is exactly what makes this park the most famous park. The park is also home to more than 500 birds’ species including the ostriches, kori bustard, starlings, weavers, marabou storks, vultures, eagles, kingfishers, rollers etc. Animals that can be found inside the park are like the impalas, gazelles, topi, hartebeest, giraffes, hippo, buffalo, dik dik, waterbuck and predators such as lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyena, jackals, caracals, serval cats etc. The scenery of Serengeti on the south east is the short grass plains. The northern part of Serengeti also known as kogatende has more hills and rocks. To the western corridor known as Grumeti there are rivers, valleys as well as forests. Some areas in the heart of Serengeti heading up north of Serengeti are dotted with ‘kopjes’. The Serengeti National Park can be visited all year round but the best time to visit is during the dry season from June to October. Lunch will be served inside the park and afterwards, proceed with game viewing until the evening where you will drive straight to your accommodation for dinner and overnight.

DAY 8: SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK TO NGORONGORO CRATER TO KARATU

Early morning after having breakfast at your accommodation inside Serengeti, you will drive straight to Ngorongoro Conservation Area en-route whereby the drive is approximately 4 hours to the floor of the crater. Ngorongoro crater is a world heritage site as well as a geo-park. It is 600m deep and before you descend the crater you will stop at a view point where you can see the crater below. The Ngorongoro crater has approximately 25000 mammals and has more than 500 birds’ species where there are also
migratory birds like the flamingos. The interesting part with Ngorongoro crater is that it is the best place in East Africa to witness the endangered black rhinos which completes the big 5. In Ngorongoro you can find animals like the Zebras, wildebeests, hyenas, lion prides, gazelles, impalas, kudus, waterbucks, buffalos and many more. The Ngorongoro crater has a diameter of approximately 20km whereby it is easy to spot animals and one can spend 5-6 hours exploring the park if you have a limited time. The other attraction in Ngorongoro crater is the Ngoitoktok picnic site which is a permanent hippo pool where most of the clients have their fabulous lunch at this place. The beauty of Ngorongoro can never be untold to the visitors who have visited this area. After having packed lunch at a picnic site at the hippo pool, you will finalize your game drive before you ascend the crater and drive straight to your accommodation for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

DAY 9: MTO WA MBU ACTIVITIES

Early morning after breakfast at around 8:00am you will visit Mto Wa Mbu village and go through the banana and rice plantations, visit the schools in the area and get to learn how local beer is made and have a taste of local beer where you will also participate in a Swahili cooking lesson. After that you will do Lake Manyara Forest hike which at an escarpment. The trails are truly amazing and you will also pass by monkeys through the forest and the views are truly breath-taking. After that you will drive straight to your
campsite for dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 10: MTO WA MBU TO THE AIRPORT

Early morning after having breakfast at your campsite in Mto Wa Mbu, you will drive straight to the airport for departure to your next destination.
